Today we highlight sophomore soccer veteran Gemel Tutu, who will be a key player on Coach George Hobbins' team in Fall 2019. See his profile below.

Year: Sophomore

Hometown: Currently resides in Vineland, NJ.

High School: Vineland High, Class of 2018.

Worth Noting: Gemel is a native of Liberia, a country on the west coast of Africa locked in civil war for many years. He came to the United States when he was a sophomore to be reunited with his Mom, who previously came to America and earned her U.S. citizenship as part of the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program.

Height:  5'7"

Weight: 150

Position: Midfield, Center Back in 2018. Will switch to Forward in 2019 campaign.

Statistics: Saw action primarily in a defensive role while a freshman last season for the Roadrunners. At Vineland High School, he played two varsity seasons and scored four career goals with three assists. He also wrestled for Vineland's varsity program as a senior in 2017-18.

Hobbies/Favorite Activities: Loves to read in his spare time and maintain good grades at RCSJ. Gemel will also participate in the EOF program and will mentor freshmen students new to the campus.

He commented: "Education is important. I always try to stay focused on my grades."

Major: Criminal Justice. Hopes to enter the Police Academy and eventually serve as a state trooper.

Gemel Tutu's Outlook on 2019 Season: "I'm working on my shot to make sure I finish more and put the ball into the back of the net. That's where I can help us win games basically ... I hope to also take on a leadership role and help out the freshmen players."

Coach George Hobbins on Gemel Tutu: “Gemel has matured into a leader and role model for all the members of our team. He works very hard on the field and in the classroom. As a result, he has been elected co-captain for the 2019 season. We are looking for Gemel to have a strong 2019 campaign.”
