Roadrunner Athletics Finishes as National Runner-up in Daktronics Cup Race

ORLANDO, FL -- RCGC Athletics completed the 2018-19 year as national runner-up  in the Daktronics Cup race, announced by the National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) during the organization's annual convention in Orlando on Monday, June 10.

Roadrunner Athletics finished second in the NJCAA Non-Scholarship Division with 131 points, just behind Suffolk County College, which had 152 points.

The winners and the top three place finishers were honored at the 2019 NATYCAA Convention, in conjunction with the NACDA & Affiliates Convention week in Orlando, Fla.

Point totals are accumulated through finish in regional and national competition. The Roadrunners scored points in women's cross country, men's cross country, women's tennis, wrestling, baseball, men's track and field, women's track and field, and men's tennis in 2018-19.

A national championship performance by men's track & field, the baseball team's second-place finish at the NJCAA World Series, and the men's tennis team's third place national finish concluded a successful run to the school's impressive 2018-19 sports campaigns.

The Daktronics Cup program, formerly known as the NATYCAA Cup, was begun in 2004. This program recognizes excellence in two-year college athletics based on success in championship competition.

"We are proud of our success in the NATYCAA Cup race and of our commitment to a balanced athletic program across the board here at RCGC," said Brian Rowan, Executive Director of Athletics. "Over the past nine years we have won this award five times, and been in the top three in the other four years. We hope to bring home another cup next year to close out what has been an outstanding decade of success for Roadrunner Athletics."

The Roadrunners last won the NATCAA Cup in 2017-18 and have captured five Cups overall since 2009-10. This was the 14th consecutive year that the RCGC program finished in the top five.
