Roadrunner volleyball standout Summer Wroniuk has been selected to be honored during the statewide celebration for National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Wednesday, February 2. Summer was selected as 2022 Roadrunner Woman of the Year, and her award highlights the remarkable success that the sport of Volleyball has recently enjoyed here at RCSJ Gloucester.
Outstanding high school and college/university female athletes are annually selected for this honor by the National Association for Girls and Women in Sports. This year's celebration will be held virtually.
A highly successful volleyball player at Williamstown High School, Wroniuk emerged as one of the key figures in helping Coach Rebecca Pierson's Roadrunners' rise to national prominence.
Wroniuk was chosen as a First Team libero on the NJCAA Division III All-American Team along with teammate Dominique Marcano. Wroniuk was instrumental in helping the Runners qualify for the NJCAA D-III Volleyball Championship Tournament for the first time in school history! The Runners finished eighth nationally under head Coach Pierson.
"We really appreciate Summer's leadership and commitment to Roadrunner Athletics," said Executive Director of Athletics Brian Rowan. "She had an outstanding season this past Fall and is extremely deserving of this honor."
The National Girls and Women in Sports Award recognizes outstanding student-athletes throughout New Jersey who have made significant contributions to their institution and community through athletic accomplishments, academic success, and community involvement.
The Roadrunner Department of Athletics plans to honor Wroniuk at a future date to be announced.
