Brian Rowan was appointed the Executive Director for Athletics at Rowan College in July 2016, assuming the position from retired AD Ron Case. Rowan entered the position with a long and distinguished history of service to RCSJ both as an administrator and a coach. The Gloucester County native is proud to lead one of the nation’s most successful Junior College athletic programs and follow in the footsteps of his predecessor Ron Case and the Roadrunners only other Athletic Director Ed Cruetzinger both NACDA Hall of Famers. 

In 2017-18, Roadrunner Athletics were named the top overall two-year athletic program in the nation and earnd their fifth NATYCAA Cup, the first under AD Rowan. The program earnd the honor again after the 2021-22 year where ten Roadrunner programs advanced to comete in National Championship events. Rowan has overseen the development of several new partnerships since assuming the Director of Athletics role at RCSJ including a streaming-rights deal with NJCAATV and the development of a new athletics website with Presto Sports. He is also very proud of the college's Unified Sports program which he was among the founders in 2013. This program partners Special Olympics athletes with RCGC student-athletes for athletic competitions and experiences.

In 2018, RCSJ launched Men's and Women's intercollegiate golf, the first new sport addition under Rowan.

In his administrative role as Assistant AD, Rowan helped to usher in the most successful period in the history of Roadrunner Athletics. Since his arrival in 2008 through 2016, the Roadrunners won 14 NJCAA Division III national championships spread out over seven sports. The college won its first ever NATYCAA Cup for overall athletics success at the two-year level in 2010 and repeated that success in 2011, 2012, and 2013. In 2012-2013, the college was awarded the prestigious Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup for the best overall two-year athletic program in the country. Rowan was in charge of the launch of Women's Volleyball during his time as Assitant AD as well.

Rowan came to Gloucester County College (now RCSJ) in 2005 as the head men’s tennis coach. He led the men's tennis team to its first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III national championship in 2010 and followed that with national crowns in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Under coach Rowan's leadership, the men's tennis program has produced 40 NJCAA All-Americans and 14 individual NJCAA national champions. Rowan also served as the President of the NJCAA Men's Tennis Coaches Association where he oversaw a re-write of the NJCAA Handbook on Men's and Women's Tennis and helped move the Men's and Women's NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournaments to the beautiful PeachTree City Tennis Center outside Atlanta, GA.

Rowan has also served as the head women’s tennis coach and led that program to two NJCAA Division III national championships in 2012 and 2013. He was also an assistant with the women’s basketball program.

Prior to joining the RCGC full-time staff, he spent four seasons as the men’s tennis coach while teaching history and coaching the boys’ varsity basketball team at Triton Regional High School in Runnemede, NJ. Rowan also held posts as the boys’ varsity tennis coach and assistant football coach while at Triton.

Rowan earned his associate’s degree from Gloucester County College in the spring of 1997, when he was a member of both the men’s basketball and tennis teams. Rowan played for Roadrunner Legend Steve Solomone who is now a member of the NJCAA Basketball Hall of Fame in addition to the Roadrunner Hall of Fame and the Gloucester County Sports Hall of fame. He continued his basketball career at Rutgers University-Camden where he earned a B.A. in History. In 2005, Rowan earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix. Rowan graduated from Gateway Regional High School in 1994 and currently resides in Blackwood, NJ with his wife and two daughters Hailey and Hannah. In his spare time, Rowan is an advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), helping to raise money for a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
