Roadrunners Defeat #1 Cumberland CC to Split Season Series

Lead off hitter Lorenzo Morello collected four hits and two RBIs while teammates Anthony Angelino and Dauri Geneo drove in two runs each as the No. 6 Roadrunners stunned top-ranked Cumberland 7-5 in a GSAC and Region XIX showdown Tuesday afternoon.

The Runners grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and needed two in the top of the eighth to seal the win.

Winning pitcher Anthony Capasso struck out six and allowed three hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. Jack Billings and Mike  Biasiello finished up in relief with Biasiello earning the save.

The Runners Improved to 25-9 overall and will play at Camden County College Thursday in a 3 pm start.

In a highly anticipated meeting between two of the top Division III junior college teams in the country, No. 4 ranked RCGC will visit No. 1 Cumberland Tuesday afternoon beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The Roadrunners have a 24-7 overall record and have lost 4 of their last 6 games. The top-ranked Dukes have a 29-2 overall record.

Cumberland won the first meeting between the two teams by a 1-0 score on March 29.

"We know the final score says Cumberland won, but we also know we're right there with them," said slugger Ryan Murphy following the contest. "We're determined to make sure this is a different outcome the next time we play them."
