POWER SURGE! Graeber, Brzezniak Lead Productive Roadrunners to National Recognition

The Roadrunner Baseball lineup is, let's just say, loaded with firepower. Led by sophomore slugger Aaron Graeber and freshman star Rocko Brzezniak, the Runners' lineup has claimed several spots on individual national leader boards while soaring to an overall No. 2 NJCAA Division ranking.

After slamming a pair of home runs against Brookdale CC at home Tuesday in a win that clinched the GSAC championship, Brzezniak moved into a tie for the national lead with 15 roundtrippers. He also leads all D III hitters nationally with 77 RBIs.

Graeber, meanwhile, leads the nation in both hits (78) and runs scored (75) and is third in RBIs with 68 and fifth in home runs at 13. Oh, and he is hitting a robust .506, good for sixth in the nation,

"If they keep hitting like this, we'll be to tough to stop," said Coach Rob Valli, whose squad has fashioned an impressive 38-5 overall record while grabbing another GSAC crown.

For their part, Brzezniak and Graeber -- who blend well into a solid lineup that also includes teammates Scotty Young, Jimmy Bruno, Felix Diaz, and Cole Fowler -- could care less about their individual stats.

Graeber, who played a key role in last season's Region 19 championship run, is merely hoping to add some hardware to the Runners' team trophy case.

"Our goal is to bring home a national championship, plain and simple," said the former West Deptford High standout. "We have a good team and we're ready for the playoffs. We've played a tough schedule, so we're ready for the challenge."

Brzezniak, a former St. John Vianney star from Matawan, NJ, made a major change to his batting style early in the season with some help from Valli. During a home game vs. Camden County in early March, the coaching staff had him switch from a "no stride" swing to a leg kick. Immediately, he ripped a home run to help topple the Cougars -- and he has been on a tear ever since.

"My season changed completely," he commented. "I'm seeing the ball better and getting the barrel on the ball more often."

"I could care less about my stats as long as we're winning," he said. "Winning has been a lot of fun -- not to mention, our lineup is the strongest I've ever been a part of either in high school or college."

Graeber and Brzezniak, both exercise science majors, look to continue their careers at NCAA schools once they graduate RCSJ Gloucester. Graeber has committed to the University of Delaware while Brzezniak is hoping to play at a Northeast university such as Rutgers or Monmouth once he graduates RCSJ on 2024.

But first things first. "We can't wait for the playoffs to start," said Graeber.
