Defense Shows Improvement as Roadrunners Roll Past Host Bergen

The goal heading into Saturday's Garden State Athletic Conference matchup at Bergen County College was simple -- show improvements on the defensive front.
Consider it mission accomplished for RCGC men's basketball team.

The Roadrunners, who gave up 92 points in a close win earlier in the week, tightened up their defensive efforts for the second game in a row and rolled to a 94-57 triumph over the Bulldogs, their 15th in succession. The visitors got out to an early lead and raced to a 45-31 halftime lead in never looking back.

The Roadrunners, who are now 18-2 overall and are No. 10 in the most recent NJCAA Division III National Rankings, received a solid all-around effort from freshman forward Ja'Zere Noel whp pumped in 26 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Guard Tyler Lunsford continued his fine season with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists while guard Luciano Lubrano contributed 15 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds.

"Our defensive effort and focus showed for the second straight game," said head coach Will Wareham, whose team beat Lehigh-Carbon on the road Thursday night. "After giving up 90-plus points to Atlantic County earlier in the week, we really wanted to concentrate on getting better on the defensive end."

Wareham, in his first season with the Roadrunners, has impressed on a number of levels. "Will has brought in a terrific staff and for us to be where we are right nowis really a success story," commented Roadrunner Director of Athletics Brian Rowan. "It is something that has the entire campus buzzing and people feeling like we can be in the hunt for regional and national championships for many years to come like we were in the 90's and early 2000's."

The triumph was the second this sesoon over Bergen as the Roadrunners stay atop the GSAC standings with a 12-1 conference record. Next up for RCGC will be a home game against Cumberland County College in Tuesday in a 7 pm start.
