GSAC Champions! Roadrunner Men's Basketball Races Past Union County to Clinch Crown!

Freshman guard DJ Henderson fired in 20 points to lead all RCGC scorers and lift the Roadrunners to a 93-72 triumph over visiting Union County Saturday, clinching the 2018-19 Garden State Athletic Conference championship for the Runners.

Coach Will Wareham's team captured the GSAC crown thanks to a 25-3 overall mark and 15-2 league mark. Following a loss at the buzzer to Middlesex on the road in late January, RCGC has now won five in a row -- this on the heels of a 17-game win streak earlier.

Other top scorers for the winners included guard Tyler Lunsford and forward Luciano Lubrano, both of whom hit the mark for 19 points, and sophomore forward Stevynjaamad Hawkins, who had 17.

The Runners proudly displayed their GSAC title banner following the win.

"This is what we worked hard all season for," said Lubrano, a former Ocean City High standout. "It's nice to be a part of this moment."

RCGC raced to a 45-25 first half lead and never looked back. Despite a few early shooting problems, Wareham's team regained their outside touch while roaring back to control the offensive and defensive boards.

And heading into the upcoming Region XIX Tournament, this is exactly what Wareham wanted to see out of his team, No. 6 in the most recent NJCAA Division III National Rankings.

"We've bounced back well following the loss to Middlesex," said Wareham. "We are realizing that every game is a challenge and you must keep working hard. We just need to stay focused as we have been, especially heading into the postseason."

The Runners have two remaining regular-season games on the road at Ocean County College on February 12 and at Northampton on February 14.
