Region XIX Playoffs: Roadrunners Split Two Games With Lehigh Carbon

Freshman Mackenzie Long slammed a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning for the game-winning hit to help the No. 2 seed Roadrunner softball team beat Lehigh Carbon 15-13 for a split of the first two games of the Region XIX playoff series Saturday at Cumberland County College.

The No. 3 seed Cougars won Game 1 by a 9-1 score. The two teams will play the decisive Game 3 on Sunday at 3 pm, weather permitting, at Cumberland. The winner will be crowned District F champion and will earn a trip tp the NJCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

Also in Game 2, Gia Cerminaro, Olivia Farina and Kelsee Murphy each knocked in three runs for the Roadrunners, who trailed 13-12 entering the bottom of the sixth. Cerminaro and Kelsey Murphy blasted earlier home runs as the Runners moved out to an 11-7 lead before Lehigh Carbon rallied.

In Game 1, Sarah Wagstaff cracked a three-run home run and had five RBIs to lift the Cougars to the triumph.
