Roadrunners Drop Ocean CC in Final Home Game of 2018

Roadrunners Drop Ocean CC in Final Home Game of 2018

RCGC women's basketball coach Rich Cooper knows he has plenty of talent on his roster to enjoy a successful 2018-19 campaign – but winning takes plenty of cultivation and time together.

After 10 games the Roadrunners are finally seeing their lineup move into high gear, as was evident by Thursday night's 82-20 thrashing of visiting Ocean County College in a key Garden State Athletic Conference contest.

The offense was spread out nicely. Five players, led by guard Tierah Bush's 18 points and guard Naiyana Sabb's 16, provided plenty of scoring on the evening. Just as important, the entire lineup performed well on the defensive end, creating turnovers and sparking a solid transition game – all of this a hallmark of Coach Cooper's teams.

"We've had some injuries and players out of the lineup for various reasons, so we're still getting used to each other," said Cooper. "But we have some key players back and we're starting to play well on the defensive end. When you do, the offense will feed right off that every time."

Other offensive contributors for the Runners,  who are now 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the GSAC and Region XIX, included first-year guard Kylar Coughlin, who tossed in 10 points, and second-year standouts McKenna Dowd and Isabella Villari, who also chipped in with 10 each.

The Runners snapped a two-game winless streak, both to unbeaten teams in Brookdale and Rowan-Burlington. Next up RCGC will play a makeup game at Passaic County on Tuesday, December 18th in a 5:30 pm start.
