McKenna Dowd Takes on Scoring Role to lift Roadrunners Past Montgomery County

With injuries to key players on the Roadrunners' women's basketball roster, second-year guard McKenna Dowd knew she would need to play a different role in Coach Rich Cooper's lineup entering Thursday night's contest against Region XIX opponent Montgomery County CC (PA).

Dowd accepted the change and ran with it. She switched gears to help out offensively, scoring a game-high 22 points while dishing out 5 assists to lift the Runners to a 65-51 victory as RCGC evened its overall record at 7-7.

Entering the game, McKenna averaged slightly under 4.0 points per game in her role as a defensive specilaist. But all of that changed against the visiting Mustangs on Thursday.

"Normally I focus more on defense and passing off the ball," Dowd said. "But now we've lost some scorers, so I realize I need to shoot more, so I'be shifted my game somewhat."

Dowd tossed in 15 of her 22 in the first half as the Roadrunners raced out to a 34-23 halftime lead.

Also helping out in the scoring column was freshman guard Nikita Acker, who deposited 17 points in only her second game playing at RCGC.

"We've had some players out of the lineup and we had just six players available tonight," Cooper noted. "We had a chance to have 1 or 2 days of solid practice this week to get ready for this game, so I thought we connected well."

The Runners next travel to conference rival Sussex County Community College for a 12 pm contest.
