Sabb Returns to Lineup to Lift Roadrunner Women Past Middlesex County

If the RCGC women's basketball team has a chance at qualifying for the upcoming Region XIX tournament, they will rely heavily on second-year point guard Naiyana Sabb.

The former Gloucester Catholic standout returned to the lineup following a six-game layoff due to injury Tuesday night and indeed made quite a difference. She pumped in 17 points and directed her offense in perfect fashion to lead the Roadrunners to a 70-41 triumph over host Middlesex in a Garden State Athletic Conference contest.

Joining Sabb in the scoring column were guard McKenna Dowd with 14 points Kadinah Harris-Hood with 12, and forward Kylar Coughlin with 10 as the Roadrunners bounced back from tough loss to Bergen over the weekend.

"Naiyana means a lot to our performance on the court -- that's why she's the point guard," said head coach Rich Cooper. "She calms everyone down when needed and helps get a lot more offensively out of our starters."

Sabb, who transferred to RCGC from Holy Family University, felt her return to the lineup went smoothly.

"It's tough coming back from an injury and a long layoff," she said. "I was a little more careful out there tonight, but overall felt good. I'm excited at how well we played together --we definitely have the goal of making the playoffs."

The win was the second of the season over the Colts, boosting the Runners to 9-9 overall and 5-5 within the GSAC.

"Right now we're healthy and we're starting to execute a lot more efficiently," said Cooper. "Hopefully all good signs!"

Next up will be a road game at Mercer County on Thursday and a home contest Saturday vs. Passaic.
