Jonaysia Clark, No. 9 Ranked Roadrunners Soar to Win over Sussex CCC in Home Opener

Ever since a tough opening day outing vs. a nationally ranked opponent, the Roadrunner Women's Basketball team has carved out a winning path.

With several players leading the charge Saturday, Coach Rich Cooper's team notched their third win in a row, a 79-63 victory over Region 19 rival Sussex CCC in the team's home opener.

Freshman Jonaysia Clark paced the Runners'offense with 17 points while teammates Nyasia Clark, Danielle Jeffreys and Maxine Ampofo added 12 apiece to balance out the attack.

"We're cleaning up our early season mistakes and we're getting everyone involved," said Cooper. "We have a lot of talent here, and working together everyday is helping us improve."

Jonaysia Clark tallied 7 of her points in the first half to help the home team to a 34-18 advantage, and then netted 10 more in the second half to close out the win for the No. 9 nationally ranked Runners.

A former Oakcrest High standout, Jonaysia feels quite at home in the Roadrunner offense.

"This is a much faster and more complicated offense, but I'm fitting right in," Jonaysia said. "My teammates have been great and the coaching staff has really helped me make the transition from high school to college athletics,"

Next up for the Runners will be a road game at GSAC rival Atlantic Cape on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in a 5 pm start.
