Frustrating. That is the only way RCGC women's soccer coach Megan Ruttler could describe Thursday afternoon's 1-0 double overtime loss to visiting Harcum College.
"We just couldn't get it in gear with our attack," said Ruttler, whose team finished No. 4 in the Division III National Championship Tournament last season. "We weren't executing what we practiced all week. It was frustrating."
Following a scoreless two periods of regulation, in which the Bears kept the Roadrunners' offense bottled up, Harcum's Mia Mendez booted in a penalty kick to seal the win for Harcum in the second OT period. The PK was awarded following a hand ball violation.
Overall, Runners' goalkeeper Michelle Salamoni (Washington Twp.) held the visitors scoreless with solid saves throughout regulation and overtime.
"She (Salmoni) made some amazing saves, and that was a great takeaway," said Ruttler. "We'll keep working hard in practice and in our upcoming games -- we have a lot of talent and I know we'll improve."
The Roadrunners next travel to Montgomery Rockville (MD) and Howard Community College (MD) this weekend.
