Women's Soccer: Villari Hat Trick in Second Half Sparks Roadrunner Win Over Ocean CC

Ever since Roadrunner Women's Soccer Coach Stephen Hart switched her position, sophomore Alaina Villari has emerged as one od the top scoring threats in Region 19 and the Garden State Athletic Conference.

Want proof? In Tuesday's 3-0 triumph over host Ocean County College, Alaina recorded the first hat trick of her career, giving her 7 goals in the past 3 games. Alaina was moved from the central defensive midfield position to striker during a win over Lehigh Carbon recently, and the results have been off the charts.

"I played the striker position in high school (Pitman), so I was comfortable with the move," said Alaina. "It feels more like a natural position for me."

Villari broke the scoreless tie in the second half with her three goals. Maura Smith assisted on the first two scores while Kacey Marshall assisted on the third goal for the hat trick.

In addition, Alaina -- along with teammates Maura Smith and Meghan Zieger - were among three starters who lost playing time this fall due to injuries but have returned over the past three games.

"Losing these players was significant in our lineup," said Coach Hart. "Now we're a much deeper team, and everyone is seeing quality playing time."

In the win over the Vikings, goalkeeper Lauren Graham registered three saves to pick up the shutout. The Runners won their third straight game to improve to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the GSAC standings. Ocean CC  fell to 4-3 overall.

Next up for Hart's team is a home game vs. Union College Saturday, Oct. 7, in a 3 pm start.
