Roadrunner Volleyball Shows Steady Improvement Despite Loss to Sussex CCC

While her teams is still seeking their first win of the Fall 2023 season, Roadrunner Volleyball coach Samanatha Bevilacqua continues to see steady improvement in her young players.

The Runners dropped a hard-fought 3-1 decision to visiting Sussex County Community College Wednesday night at GCIT, but there was no mistaking how far the team has come in a short period of time.

The starting six of Madison King, Kaleigh Matlack, Cadence Adams, Wilani Herrera, Ashlee Novelli and Maria Kerby showed many bright spots in a tough defeat. The Runners dropped the first set by a 25-20 score but bounced back to win set two by a 25-23 count to tie the match, 1-1. The squad battled hard but lost sets 3 and 4 by scores of 25-20 and 25-21.

"They were close, very close," said Coach Bevilacqua. "The improvement has been amazing and their confidence is growing every time they step on the floor. We're also working through some injuries, so once we are at full strength, we hope to bring home a few wins."

The Runners will have some time off moving into September with their next match set for Sept. 6 against powerhouse conference rival Raritan Valley in a 6 pm home contest.
