RCGC Athletics Welcomes Leyna Ambrose as Assistant Cross Country Coach

RCGC Athletics welcomes new Assistant Cross Country Coach Leyna Ambrose, who previously served as Timber Creek High School's girls' coach for 9 seasons.

"Coach Ambrose was particularly impressive in the interview process," commented Roadrunner AD Brian Rowan. "We are looking for female leaders and role models for our student-athletes and she fits the bill. We are expecting her to have a big impact on our program and look forward to her being a part of our program for a long time."

Ambrose has an impressive list of credentials as an athlete as well as in her coaching career.

Leyna attended Triton Regional High School where she competed in cross country and track and field her sophomore, junior and senior years. During that time, she was named to the First Team All-Olympic Conference, All-County, All-South Jersey and All-State Teams for two years in a row. She was the South Jersey Cross Country Group 4 Sectional Champion and was 8thoverall at the New Jersey State Meet of Champions her senior year. 

In track, she concentrated on the 1600 and 3200m events and was a three-time First Team All-Olympic Conference, All County and a two-time All-South Jersey and All-State selection at 3200m. She was 3rd over-all in the 3200m run at the New Jersey State Meet of Champions her senior year and continues to hold several school records at Triton.

Leyna continued her running career at LaSalle University, where she was a four-time All-Atlantic 10 Conference Selection in cross country and was a member of three Atlantic 10 Conference Championship teams. In track, her main focus was the 5,000 and 10,000 meters. She was a two-time All-Atlantic 10 Conference Selection and an Atlantic 10 Champion at 10,000 meters her senior year. She also qualified twice for the ECAC Championships at 10,000 meters her junior and senior years. She held the school record for 10,000 meters and several other relay records at LaSalle as well. She qualified provisionally for the NCAA Division 1 Track and Field National Championships her senior year.

Ambrose has been both an assistant and head coach at the high school level. She has done an outstanding job as the leader of the Timber Creek HS program and is well known throughout the South Jersey running community. 

Leyna currently resides in Williamstown with her husband Tom and three children; Emily, Chase and Landon.
