Lubrano, Noel Star as Roadrunner Men's Basketball Holds Off Passaic County

This past week may have been the toughest stretch of the season for the Roadrunner men's basketball team, and coach Will Wareham's club finished in style.

Sophomore forward Luciano Lubrano dropped in 24 points followed by freshman forward Ja'Zere Noel, who had 23 as the Runners held off visiting Passaic 100-93.

The win completed a 2-1 week for RCGC, which lost at the buzzer to Middlesex and topped D-II power Mercer earlier in the week.

"We played some tough teams and it was a good test for the upcoming playoffs," said Wareham. "We know a few areas we need to tighten up."

Also scoring in double figures for the winners were guards DJ Henderson (16), Tyler Lunsford (13) and Alex Angeles (10). In addition, sophomore S.J. Hawkins played limited minutes following a brief illness, but teammate Zy'mire McCray came off the bench to score 8 points and hold his own on the defensive front.

"I felt good out there and was just glad to help out the team," said McCrae, a former player at Christiana High School (Delaware).

The Runners held a 20-point lead at 38-18 in the first half before Passaic closed the gap to 48-37 at halftime. RCGC rebuilt the lead to 18 in the second half before the visitors narrowed the gap to 5 points in the closing minutes of play.

The win improved RCGC's record to 22-3 overall and they remain atop both the Region XIX and Garden State Athletic Conference standings.

The Runners are currently No. 5 in the current NJCAA Division III National Rankings.

Next up will be Camden County College at home Tuesday starting at 5 p.m. The Runners hope to avenge an early season defeat to the Cougars on Dec. 21.
