Men's Tennis Sweeps Season Series vs. Brookdale, Clinches GSAC Co-Championship

On Sophomore Day, there was plenty to celebrate for RCGC's men's tennis team with their 7-2 home triumph over Brookdale County Community College.

The Runners accomplished quite a bit, earning a key 7-2 conference win over the Jersey Blues -- their second of the season over Brookdale -- and clinching a conference co-championship. RCGC, with its 4-2 overall and 4-1 league mark, now shares the GSAC crown with Ocean County College.

Leading the way, as they have in recent weeks, were sophomores J.P. Ciliberto (Paul VI), Zach Carr (Williamstown) and Paulo Claure (Delran), each winning their singles and doubles matches.

The season sweep over the Jersey Blues, said Claure, provides the Runners with plenty of confidence entering next week's Region XIX championships at Mercer County Park.

"The past few weeks have been exciting and we're very confident entering the Region championships," said Claure. "You can see we've been improving with every match and we expect that to continue."

Ciliberto agreed: "We had some ups and downs at the beginning of the season, but we're peaking at the right time."

The sophomores were honored in a pre-game ceremony, and they delivered in a big way Saturday.

"I can't say enough about how far this team has come and the leadership our sophomores have provided," said Coach Brian Rowan. "This is a special group of players."

Said Sophomore Zach Carr. "It was great to be honored on Sophomore Day and to be a part of of the RCGC program. Today's win is special, but there's more to come."

Next up for the Runners will be a road match at Williamson Trade on Monday in a 3:30 pm start.
