Track & Field returns from Lloyd Sigler Spring Opener with multiple 1st place finishes

The RCGC Men's Outdoor Track and Field teams started their 2019 campaign this past weekend.  The teams traveled to one of the first available meets in the entire country down at the Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet hosted by Salisbury University.  The risk of going to such an early meet is the weather, and the teams definitely had to do battle with that as their toughest opponent this time.  With gusting winds, some drizzle and temperatures that felt like 36 degrees, the teams did not show their best times/distances, but rather got to practice their mental and physical toughness.  Due to the conditions, the teams came home with only one NJCAA National Championship qualifier, Nicole Caramanna (Pitman) with her win in the javelin throw.  Other wins came from Josh Varghese (Williamstown) in the shot put and from the 4x100m relay team of Marquis Copeland (Winslow), Will Cabbell (Pennsgrove), Jordan Flynn (Woodbury) and Derek Gatling II (Kingsway).

Other impressive to 4 finishes came from: Emileigh Zane (Pennsville) 2nd in the javelin, Marquis Copeland 2nd in the 100m, Derek Gatling II 3rd in the 100m, Keyonia Vaughn (Winslow) 4th in the 100m, AJ Macklin (Eastern) 4th in the 800m and Josh Varghese 2nd in the hammer throw.

Next up for the Roadrunners will be the Richard Stockton Invitational, where we should have our full team strength represented and hopefully some warmer weather!
