The Roadrunner Men's and Women's track teams began the 2020 spring seasom in dominating fashion Saturday during the annual Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland.
The defending NJCAA Divsion III National Champion Men's squad, coached by veteran head coach Ryan Hughes and Assistants Joe Kalnas and Mark Getsinger, looked solid in their 2020 debut. The Runners collected a total of eight first place medals on the day against top NJCAA and NCAA Division III competition.
The chilly conditions may have hampered some of the times/distances, but the Roadrunners were still able to come home with some impressive finishes and a handful of NJCAA National Championship qualifiers.
Coach Ryan Hughes commented, "It was a good start to the season, giving us 7 NJCAA Qualifiers, and also giving us a chance to get into an early meet situation to erase some nerves as well as pinpoint some things we need to work on as the season progresses."

Freshman Joshua Washington grabbed a first place finish in the 100 meters in a blazing time of 11.05 seconds followed by a second in the 200 in 23.08 seconds.
Freshmen Jacion Hammond and Josh Potter raced to a 1-2 finish in the 800 meters while freshman Christion Anigilaje and sophomore Noah Cziryak were third and fourth in the 1,500 meters.
Hammod, Washington, Hasan Hamilton and Potter blazed to a first in the Men's 4 x 100 meters while freshman Trevor Green was first in the Men's long jump with a leap of 6.22 meters (20 feet, 5 inches).
Greene captured the men's triple jump with a mark of 12.73 meters while sophomore Adetomiwa Awogbamila was the winner in the men's shot put with a toss of 13.01 meters.
Sophomore Josh Varghese collected a pair of wins in the men's hammer and discus throws.
Top performers for the women's team were sophomore Keyonia Vaughn and freshman Nia Wilcox in the 100 meters and 200 meters, along with freshmen Jeanine Morrow in the 400 and 800 meters and Kaitlyn Holland in the 800.
In the throws, sophomore Emileigh Zane turned in solid outings in the hammer and the javelin.
Meet Preview
The Men's Track & Field Team will travel to Salisbury University in Maryland this weekend for their outdoor season opener at the Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet. The men's team returns to the track as the two-time NJCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field Defending National Champions and with many new freshman are poised to attack the season. Returners for the Roadrunners include multiple Regional and National place finishers from last year which are lead by Sophomores Noah Cziryak (Triton, distances), Joshua Varghese (Williamstown, throws), Adetomiwa Awogbamila (Pitman, throws) and freshman Vincent Flacco (Haddon Township, throws).
Though one of the earliest season openers for the teams participating in the Lloyd Sigler Meet it will give Coach Hughes an opportunity to test the teams winter training. The Roadrunners will be competing against multiple NCAA DIII schools and fellow Junior Colleges.
