NJCAAC Region XIX Cross Country -- Men's and Women's Teams Among Top Contenders

NJCAAC Region XIX Cross Country -- Men's and Women's Teams Among Top Contenders
The RCGC Men's and Women's Cross Country teams will compete in the NJCAA Region XIX Championship Meets on Sunday, October 28, at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, DE.

The Women's team will race first starting at 11:00 am followed by the Men's race at 12:00 noon. All- Region awards are earned by the top 7 individual winners in each race. The course is loaded with trails winding up and down hills.

In the men's race, former Williamstown High star Mike Dowd is the defending Region XIX champion and returning All-American. He has earned Division III National Runner of the Week twice this fall and should be in top form for the weekend.

Supporting him will be Noah Cziryak, Jake Kolodziej, and Chris Conlon, all of whom have been solid all year. Newcomer Jerry Olivera will lend depth to the pack and should help out in the final team scoring.

"We're beginning to peak at the right time, and we expect to be very competitive in the men's race," said head coach Ryan Hughes. "Mike (Dowd) is running very well and he has a nice supporting group around him."

In the women's race, the Roadrunners will try and defend their Region XIX crown from a year ago -- but the competition will be stiff from several teams.

Leading the way will be Lyndsay Boyd and Allison Bone, who have raced well in invitational competition all season, along with newcomers Nicole Ferretti, Diana Villalba and Nikki Reed, all of whom hope to make an impact in the team competition.

In this meet, history is on the Roadrunners' side – the Women's program has won 14 total Region XIX championships while the Men's program has collected an impressive 16 titles, even though region championship meets were not held annually for a stretch.
