GSAC Championships Preview: Veteran Dylan Skidmore Ready for More Success

Heading into this weekend's Garden State Athletic Conference Wrestling Championships, no one may be more ready to take home a title than sophomore 157-pounder Dylan Skidmore.

Not only has the durable Glassboro High native, who also stars for the Roadrunner' men's soccer team, shown steady improvement but he knows all too well how first-year coach Dan Antonelli has brought this team together.

You see, Skidmore wrestled for Coach Antonelli in high school when Anntonelli guided the Clayton-Glassboro High program to 300 career wins.

He of course has qwrestled for him this winter -- and has seen a familiar theme.

"Wrestling wise, it all comes down to coach (Antonelli)," said Skidmore. "He comes in and makes us work hard everyday. And it really shows out there. It pays off."

And has there been any difference wrestling for Coach Antonelli coming from high school to college?

"He's the same," Skidmore noted. "He's a laid-back guy but when it comes time to being serious, he's serious. It helps us. We can connect with him on a personal level and we feel like a family for us. We want to work hard for him and we want to win for him."

That exact coaching style has had quite an effect on the current roster of Roadrunners, noted Skidmore, the only returnee from last season who performed well in the 2018 NJCAA national tournament.

"In the second semester we're really jelling," he said. "We come in and we work hard. We're friends. We're ready to win that GSAC championship that we've been working toward."

Look for Skidmore and teammates such as first-year standouts Jared Carr (149), Dylan Fischer (165), Tyler Baer (170) along with sophomore Anthony Pencook (141) to help the Roadrunners to continue a winning tradition in Saturday's GSACs.
