Roadrunners Host Women's Tennis Regional Tournament, Earn Trip to National Tournament! See Photo Highlights!

The Women's Region XIX Tennis Tournament was hosted by Rowan College at Gloucester County on October 19, 20 and 21, 2018.  

Teams and individuals looked to advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in PeachTree City, GA November 2-4.

TOURNAMENT RECAP

 

With their second place finish in the NJCAA Region XIX Championship Tournanent, the host RCGC Women's Tennis Team has earned a trip to the Division III National Championship Tournament in PeachTree City, GA from November. 2-4. 
 
The Roadrunners tied with Northampton County for second place with 14 points to grab the qualifying berth at Nationals for a second straight season. 
 
Among the champions were the second doubles team of Kayla Lisek and Jessica Williams.
 
"It's exciting and such a fun trip to go up against national competition," said Williams, a second-year player, about the upcoming trip to PeachTree City. "The weather will be a lot warmer than it was here, so we're looking forward to competing." 
 
Congratulations to Camden CC on earning the 2018 NJCAA Region XIX Championship. The tournament came down to the final match on court when the Cougars defeated Northampton CC at #1 Doubles to clinch the title. 
 
For the first time, the region tournament was broadcast live via NJCAATV - link to watch the #1 singles and #1 doubles match can be found under Rowan College at Gloucester County on NJCAATV.
 
Elise Van Ormer, Northamtpon CC, won the #1 Singles championship in three sets over Jessica Grafton of Camden CC. Grafton returned the favor earning earning the #1 Doubles championship with her partner Lexi Russick over Northampton CC.
 
In the team race, Camden CC finished with 16 team points while Northampton and Rowan-Gloucester tied for 2nd place with 14. All three programs have qualified for the NJCAA Division III National Championships November 2-4 in PeachTree City, GA.

 

DAY 2 UPDATE

The top seeds got involved in the action on Saturday and resulted in a big swing in the tournament point standings. For the first time in several seasons, the tournament will come down to the final day as Camden CC, Northampton CC, and Rowan-Gloucester all are in the hunt and within two point of each other and the lead.

In the individual competition, Northamptons Elise Van Ormer will take on Camden CC's Jessica Grafton for the #1 singles championship.

DAY 1 UPDATE

The tournament got off to a great start on Friday with clear skies and some very competitive tennis. After the first day of play the Vikings of Ocean CC have a slight lead over host RCGC and defending champions Camden CC.

On Saturday, matches are scheduled to start at 10am with semifinal singles matches to be followed by semifinal doubles.
