The search is over for Rowan College at Gloucester County's (RCGC) new executive director of athletics. The RCGC Board of Trustees announced at their April meeting that, upon current Athletic Director & Dean Ron Case's retirement this summer, Brian Rowan will be stepping up to fill the position from his current role as assistant athletic director.
"Brian Rowan has been an important part of the Athletics Division at RCGC for more than a decade," remarked Dr. Frederick Keating, president of RCGC. "He has been a huge asset as the assistant athletic director and a coach. We are thrilled to see him step into this new role."
"This is a great opportunity for me and I am excited to get started," said Rowan. "I have been lucky enough to work under an outstanding athletic administrator in Ron Case and our program is in position to have a lot of success right away. We have a really strong coaching staff in place and a history of success on the regional and national level. My job will be to promote Roadrunner Athletics and to make sure our coaches and athletes have everything they need in order to be successful."
Rowan came to Gloucester County College (now RCGC) in 2005 as the head men's tennis coach. He led the men's tennis team to its first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III National Championship in 2010 and followed up that victory in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Under coach Rowan's leadership, the men's tennis program has produced 26 NJCAA All-Americans and thirteen individual NJCAA National Champions.
Rowan has also served as the Head Women's Tennis Coach and led that program to two NJCAA Division III National Championships in 2012 and 2013 as well as an assistant with the Women's Basketball Program.
In his administrative role, Rowan has helped to usher in the most successful period in the history of Roadrunner Athletics. Since his arrival in 2008, the Roadrunners have won 14 NJCAA Division III National Championships spread out over seven sports. The college won its first ever NATYCAA Cup for overall athletics success at the two-year level in 2010 and followed that up with wins in 2011, 2012, and 2013. In 2012-2013, the college was awarded the prestigious Learfield Sports Directors' Cup for the best overall two-year athletic program in the country. Rowan currently serves as a member of the Sports Information Committee for NJCAA Region 19 and is the president of the NJCAA Men's Tennis Coaches Association.
"Brian Rowan is a highly qualified professional who will do a great job at the helm of the Roadrunner Athletic Department," said Case. "I am certain he will do a fine job of integrating new ideas and methodologies with the longstanding procedures we have followed for many years to continue the outstanding tradition of Roadrunner Athletics."
Both Rowan and Case plan to work closely during the transition. Rowan will assume the full responsibilities of executive director of athletics effective July 1, 2016.
