Dylan Fischer and Trina Deveney-Bethea Named Roadrunner Winter Athletes of the Season!

Sophomore All-American wrestler Dylan Fischer and freshman women's basketball star Trina Deveney-Bethea have been selected as Roadrunner Male and Female Winter Athletes of the Season respectively, Executive AD Brian Rowan announced.

Fischer, who earned All-American honors this past winter at 165 pounds, recently committed to NCAA Division II Limestone College in South Carolina, where he hopes to continue his success not only on the mat but in the classroom. For Fischer, earning All-American honors meant plenty of interest from local and regional NCAA schools. Fischer had qualified for the NJCAA National Championship Tournament two straight seasons under Coach Dan Antonelli.

At Limestone, he will  team up with a loaded roster filled with New Jersey wrestlers that currently totals 8 athletes. Under head coach Kelly Revels, the D-II Saints have emerged as a regional power in the Conference Carolinas League.

Fischer, a two-year performer, rolled to a fifth place finish in the recent NJCAA Wrestling Championship Tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa with a 4-2 tourney record.

"It feels good to finish my career as an All-American -- it's something I'm sure I'll be proud of the rest of my life," said Fischer, who will study athletic training at Limestone. "I was away from wrestling for a little while after high school, and never imagined I would be this successful in college when I first came back to wrestle."

Trina Deveney-Bethea proved to be a solid addition to the Roadrunner women's basketball program in 2019-20, leading the team to a Region XIX Final Four appearance after overcoming an early-season ankle injury. Upon her return to the lineup in early December, Trina quickly made an impact by averaging 15.0 points and 12.4 rebounds per game to earn All-Region honors. She also turned in solid defensive performances with 54 blocks and 30 steals on the season.

"Trina made such a huge difference in our lineup, and her play on the court always spoke volumes,"said Roadrunners' Coach Rich Cooper. "She is a quiet leader who will continue to improve as she returns for her sophomore season."

Trina was a former Cedar Creek High standout who averaged 15.7 points and 12.8 rebounds per game during her senior campaign in 2018-19.
