Angeles Shows Scoring Punch as No. 10 Roadrunners Hold Off Montgomery

Seeing playing time mainly in a reserve role this winter, first-year guard Alex Angeles saw his name calledmore frequently in the past two games by RCGC head coach Will Wareham.

Angeles, who came to RCGC this Fall from Chaminade Prep in Hollywood, FL, has embraced his new role -- his presence was a key factor again Thursday night as the Runners fought off a tough Montgomery County College team 84-74 to win their 11th straight game and maintain their No. 10 spot in the NJCAA Division III national rankings.

Angeles drained a key 12 points, including two clutch jumpers in the final moments of play as the Runners avoided an upset. In the win over D-III defending D-III National Champion Brookdale on Tuesday, Angeles collected 17 points.

"At some point we want every single player to make a contribution in this lineup -- that's whay they're here," said coach Wareham. "I'm not surpised at all that Alex is able to contribute like this."

Angeles, who stands just 5-feet 11 inches, used his speed and shooting skills to run a smooth transition game throughout the night.

"Always ready when coach needs me," he said afterwards. "This is what it's all about. I'm glad to have a chance to contribute."

Angeles was not the only contributor. After the visiting Mustanges (10-4 overall) claimed a 7-point first half lead, forward-guard Luciano Lubrano netted 8 of his 20 points early in the first half to help the team move out to 38-34 halftime advantage.

Second-year forward Ty Ellison pumped in 15 points while guard Tyler Lunsford added 13 to help the Runners maintain the upper hand in the second half.

The Roadrunners improved to 14-2 overall as they travel to Sussex County Community College on Saturday for a 2 pm game.
