Roadrunner Men's Basketball Drops Close Decision to Delaware Tech in Coach Brandon Williams' Debut

Throughout Thursday night's season-opening 77-72 loss to visiting Delaware Tech, Roadrunner Men's Basketball Brandon Williams -- coaching his first-ever collegiate game -- witnessed a resilient effort from his club. Subsequently, the NJ/DE JUCO Classic between the two programs proved to be a competitive affair.

The Runners quickly fell behind 14-0 in what seemed to be the blink of an eye. Finally, forward Chris Racobaldo nailed a three-pointer and RCSJ was on the board and ready for the challenge.

Despite 22 points from guard Keyshaun Sanders, 13 from Racobaldo and Justin Handy, and 12 from Sam Sanford, a furious RCSJ rally fell short. Saunders' hot shooting and hustle helped the Runners grab a one-point lead late twice in the second half, but it was not quite enough down the stretch as the Hawks hung on.

"We got into the early hole, so we just impressed upon the players to focus on one play at a time -- make sure to execute on the offensive side," said Williams. "That's what the players did. They were able to get over their jitters and settle in. They were in this all the way."

The Runners forged into the lead at 60-59 in the second half and then again claimed a one-point advantage a moment later, but Division II Delaware Tech took control to outscore the host team 18-12 down the stretch.

Next up for the Runners will be a home game vs. Mercer CCC on Thursday, Nov, 9 in a 7 pm start.
