Roadrunner Men's Basketball Survives Furious Rally in Double OT Win Over Passaic CCC

The Roadrunner Men's Basketball team had to earn some respect the hard way Saturday afternoon -- and it all resulted in a 101-96 triumph in double overtime over host Passaic CCC in the season finale.

Coach Rich Casey's team held leads during this game of 17, 14 and 11 points, yet allowed the home team back into the contest, which was tied following regulation and drifted into two OTs. But the furious Passaic rally finally fizzled out.

Freshman Eriq Campbell proved clutch, notching a steal that turned into two key points near the end of the second OT to clinch the Runners' victory. Sophomore guard Quantavious Rogers led the overall effort with 27 points and 10 assists while guards Khayri Ransom and Jerry Surrency pumped in 22 points apiece in a winning effort. Freshman Josh Randall also chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

"We did our best to give this one away -- thankfully we survived," commented Coach Casey, a first-year skipper. "But our players showed their resiliency when we looked like we were beaten. That's all that counts."

The season-ending win enabled the Runners to close out the regular season with a 21-7 overall record. Looking ahead, Casey's team hopes to receive a higher seed and possible home game in the upcoming Region 19 playoffs. The seedings will be decided on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

"The players did a tremendous job -- they bought into our system right from the start and they overcame all the ups and downs," said Casey. "Hopefully we can make a run in the Region playoffs."
