Roadrunner Golf: Alaina Villari Hits Milestone Shot, Men's Team Registers Historic Win!

As Opening Day matches go, Monday's competition at LBI National Golf Resort provided some historical results for the upstart Roadrunner Men's and Women's Golf teams.

Freshman Alaina Villari provided the individual highlight of the afternoon when she launched a hole-in-one on the 125-yard par 3 4th hole at LBI National!

In the team results, the Men's squad registered a collective 350 points for the low score of the meet, handing County College of Morris (367) their first team loss in four years in GSAC competition!

All of this on a windy day that presented difficult playing conditions for all golfers.

"These were not ideal conditions to play in, but it is March, and we've prepared for this kind of day since we began practice earlier this month," said Dr. Guy Davidson, Roadrunners' head coach. "I'm proud of all of our accomplishments today."

Alaina Villari had never played in high school or collegiate competition until Monday -- and did she ever provide the highlight moment of the young season! After stroking what proved to be a perfect shot, she quickly lost site of the ball on the elevated course. After searching for the ball's location in the back woods, two competing players quickly let her know she had indeed recorded a hole-in-one!

Assistant Coaches Lauren Vilimas and Jim Clarke along with teammate Crystal Johnson confirmed the achievement.

"'I couldn't believe it -- how is this possible!!" was my reaction when I heard the news,'" she said. "I was just hoping to reach the green. I was thrilled when the coaches and Crystal (Johnson) told me this really happened."

Sophomore Skylar Amoroso and freshman Nancy Davidson enjoyed solid outings as well with scores of 104 and 114 respectively.

On the men's side, the Roadrunners' top five played at a high level despite the windy conditions. Leading the way was sophomore Jack Wheaton with a team low of 84, followed by Sam Burek (88), Logan Perrone and Freddie Ramos (89), and Cole Bruner (98).

"Logan (Perrone) and Sam (Burek) really stepped up to support the top five, and they made a big difference today," said Coach Davidson. "We have a lot of depth, and our players showed that today."

County College of Morris, which won all of the matches vs. the Roadrunners the past two seasons, was led by sophomore standout Trevor Pedrazzi, who shot an 85.

Next up for the Runners will be a GSAC meet on March 27th at Valleybrook Country Club in Blackwood, hosted by Camden County College.
