Once again, the expectations entering the new Roadrunner Men's and Women's Golf season are high as the teams look ahead to opening day on Monday, March 31 at Seaview Bay Country Club. And with good reason. Head Coach Dr. Guy Davidson will be guiding two talented men's and women's rosters with the help of returning Assistant Coach Brian Perino and new Assistant Coach Dr. Barbara Turner. Perino's primary focus is teaching newcomers the golf swing and helping veterans with technical aspects of their game.
Roadrunner Men's Program
The Runners' Men's program has now won consecutive Region 19 and GSAC titles, with back to back trips to the NJCAA Division III Golf Championships. Current team members have clearly set their eyes on a three-peat, with the hopes of a top five finish in the National Championships.
"We lost our captain (Logan Perrone) from last year, but we have some talented freshmen here and we're looking to go further," said sophomore Nick Iuliucci, who turned in some clutch performances last spring to lift the Runners on their way to a second straight Region 19 title. "We've been out here practicing since early February and we're ready to show what we can do."
Aside from Iuliucci, the team captain this Spring, Coach Guy Davidson welcomes back sophomores Paul Welker (Washington Twp.) and Hayes Hulitt (Pitman), And, as Iuiucci pointed out, the Runners enjoyed a banner recruiting season. Men's top-flight newcomers include Julian Boyer (Deptford), Dan Collins (Colts Neck), Connor Eberly (Hammonton), Andrew Michalski (Williamstown), Colin Pape (Kingsway) and Ethan Young (Clearview).
"What this means is that we have some golfers who should help us improve on our overall team scores from the last two seasons, plus we have a lot depth," said Davidson. "These athletes support each other and have each others backs. It should be a fun season."
