Men's Tennis 2020 Season Preview: Roadrunners Return Veteran Squad

The 2020 Roadrunner Men's Tennis Team returns four veterans from the 2019 Region XIX champions who capped their season by finishing third in the NJCAA Division III National Championships at Peachtree City, Georgia.

Veteran Coach Brian Rowan expects this team to be competitive once again in continuing a proud tradition associated with Roadrunner Tennis.

"We are excited to get the matches started -- the men on the team have worked to get themselves ready and now we get to have some fun," said Coach Rowan. "We think we can compete at the regional level and hope to be able to compete with the best in the nation by the end of the season."

Lending their championship mettle to this year's five newcomers, veterans Jake Carlson, Mark Gladkyy, Dylan Kelly, and Tate Merlino are anxious to lead the 2020 Roadrunners to a third straight Region XIX crown and a return to the National Championship tournament.

First-year players Jesse Brandimento, Burrell Carlson, Corey Fischer, Ralph Martin, and Ryan Weiss have blended in well in practice. The team is looking forward to playing Drew University in the first match of the season on March 11. Conference play begins on March 20 with a home match against Ocean County College, a perennial Region XIX contender.

Mark Gladkyy returns at a No. 1 singles with Ryan Weiss, Jake Carlson, and Burrell Carlson looking strong behind him. Those four should make up the top 2 doubles pairings. No. 3 doubles and the final two singles spots will be a slugfest, with veterans Dylan Kelly and Tate Merlino battling Jesse Brandimento, Corey Fischer, and Ralph Martin for starting honors.
