RCSJ Track and Field battled through yet another terrible weekend weather situation at their latest series of meets. The team split their actions between the TCNJ Lions Invitational on Friday and the Blue Jay Tune Up at Elizabethtown on Saturday. At the two meets combined, the teams came home with 21 NJCAA National Championship qualifying marks as well as 24 seasonal bests performances.
Coach Hughes states, "The unseasonably cold and wet conditions have slowed the team down slightly in their statistics, but with the efforts we are putting in, I know we are going to shock the competition at Nationals." The Elizabethtown meet was a team scoring event, and despite RCSJ not entering athletes not entering all their normal events due to the TCNJ meet the night before, the teams were able to finish in 3rd place for the men and 7th place for the women out of 15 teams present. Next up for the Roadrunners is an Invitational at the University of Maryland where a few individuals were invited to attend, and then the NJCAA National Championships hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY.
Some of the highlights from the weekend of competition were our point scorers:
Anas Bensaoud won the 1500m run with a dramatic finishing kick for a season best time
Chris Guerrieri won the shot put while placing 3rd in discus
All of our relay teams placed 2nd (men's and women's 4x100m and men's 4x400m)
JT Coleman placed 2nd in the 400m and 6th in the 100m
Giorgio Bruno placed 3rd in the 400m
Mike Taylor and Mariella Farrell both placed 4th in the dicsus
Charlie Hepler placed 4th in the steeplechase and 8th in the 1500m
Hailey Hartwyk placed 4th in the 400m, 7th in the long jump, and 7th in the 100m
Ashton Wiseley was 5th in the 400m
Avonna Anderson was 6th in the 400m hurdles
Zach Wileczek was 6th in the 400m
Alyssa Connor was 7th in the 400m
Mike Abate was 7th in the 5k
Susana Serrano was 8th in the long jump
