The Roadrunner cross country teams took a trip to Delaware this past weekend to preview the course for the Region 19 Championships in a few weeks. The teams competed in the Delaware Invitational and faced some stiff competition from NCAA D1 teams who were also previewing the challenging course for their own conference championships.
Alyssa Connor had another great race for the Roadrunners and led the way for the team with her 42nd place finish in 30:58, followed by Ashton Wiseley in 47th . Autumn Heaton and Susana Serrano both crossed the line together in 33:37 over the 6k course.
The men's race featured a close battle between the Roadrunners and their regional rival Brookdale, with Brookdale barely getting the victory this week. Leading the way was CJ Gilmore with a 17th place finish in 30:33 over the 8k course. Next came the duo of Charlie Hepler and Joey Malec in 25th and 26th . Derek Wyllie crossed the line next in 32:20, followed by another duo for Mike Abate and John Schilling in 44th and 45th. Rounding out the team was Ben Kellum who finished in 66th to bring home a 6th place finish for the RCSJ team.
Coach Ryan Hughes' thoughts on the race were, "I was happy to see the team handle the hills of the course with ease, and I think the preview will help give us some confidence for the upcoming Region 19 championships."
Next up is the final regular season meet, with a trip to PSU-Brandywine to see a few more hills again!
