Roadrunner Softball Home Opener Is a Smashing Success!

Roadrunner Softball Home Opener Is a Smashing Success!

Finally, the Roadrunner softball team had the chance to play games on their home field Tuesday afternoon -- and the wait was well worth it.

After playing their first 16 games on the road and having a scheduled doubleheader rained out last month, Coach Steve DePasquale's team turned in a solid performance in their home opener, sweeping Montgomery County College (PA) 13-0 and 13-1 on a cold, chilly afternoon.

In Game 1, four players knocked in two runs each, including centerfielder Kelsee Murphy, shortstop Miranda Booras, catcher Macenzie Long and pitcher Gia Cerminaro, the top four hitters in the lineup.

Cerminaro was brilliant on the mound, giving up just one hit and striking out five in five innings.

The Runners grabbed a quick 2-0 lead before erupting for six more runs in the second and an 8-0 advantage.

In Game 2, the middle portion of the lineup got into the act with four players again driving in two runs each --first baseman Mackenzie Freas, DP Mackenzie Ponto, second baseman Christina Wilgus, and rightfielder Paige Sauter.

Winning pitcher Jackie Lesher scattered four hits over five innings to raise her record to 6-4 this spring.

The Runners, 10-8 overall, will host County College of Morris in a doubleheader Friday afternoon starting at 3:30 pm.
