Roadrunner Softball Uses Power Surge to Sweep Visiting Middlesex College

Don't look now, but Coach Steve DePasquale's Roadrunner softball team has steadily emerged as one of Region XIX's top contenders early in the Fall 2021 season.

Thanks to a sweep at home Saturday of visiting Middlesex College, highlighted by impressive power surges at the plate and solid pitching performances, the Roadrunners now boast of a 4-1 overall record.

In Game 1, leadoff hitter Macenzie Long stroked three hits and scored one run while second baseman Victoria London slammed a home run and collected four RBIs to lead the 10-2 triumph. Rightfielder Paige Fox also added two RBIs.

The two teams entered the bottom of the sixth inning tied at 2-2 before the Runners erupted foe eight runs to close out the win.

Winning pitcher Lacey Abrego surrendered two earned runs and four hits while striking out six in six innings of work.

In Game 2, the home team again took advantage of a big inning, producing 9 runs in the bottom of the third inning to roll out to an 11-1 lead at that point.

Centerfielder Olivia Farina belted a three-run home run to lead the 9-run third inning. Winning pitcher Sabrina Finneran scattered seven hits and struck out five.

Next up for the Runners is a doubleheader Sunday at Delaware Tech in a 12 noon start.
