GAME DAY: Roadrunner Softball Splits Doubleheader vs. County College of Morris

After notching a sweep of a doubleheader Friday afternoon, the Roadrunner softball team came right back Saturday to host a tough NJCAA Division II opponent in County College of Morris.

The twinbill proved to be an epic battle all the way as the teams split, with RCSJ winning the opener 2-1 and dropping Game 2 by an 11-7 score.

Roadrunner softball standout Macenzie Long proved to be the difference in Game 1 as she belted the game-winning home run while scoring two runs as the host team edged Morris, 2-1.

In Game 2, the Runners fell behind 2-0 early but held a slim 5-3 lead in the fourth inning. The Titans then rallied for three runs in the fifth for a 6-5 lead before padding their advantage and holding on for the win.

"It felt great playing such a big role in the win, and at the same time it was a downer losing Game 2," said Long, a sophomore out of Williamstown. "I guess that happens when two good teams battle like we did out there today."

Coach Steve DePasquale's team now has 9-4 record for 2021 season.

Next up for the Runners will be a doubleheader at RCSJ Cumberland on Tuesday, March 30. First pitch in Game 1 is set for 3:30 pm.
