London Sparks Offense as No. 4 Ranked Roadrunner Softball Sweeps Host Sussex CCC

Thanks to a hot bat by infielder Torri London, the No. 4 nationally ranked Roadrunner softball team stayed on a roll during the 2021 season, extending their win streak to six in a sweep of host Sussex County Community College in Newton, NJ.

The Runners earned the sweep with a 22-4 Game 1 win and a 9-0 triumph in Game 2. Coach Steve DePasquale's team improved their season record to 21-6 overall.

In Game 1, leadoff hitter Macenzie Long slammed a home run and collected four hits and five RBIs to lead the assault. Second baseman London chipped in with three hits and five RBIs while teammate Emily MacGibeney cracked a home run.

The Runners erupted for 8 first inning runs and 11 second inning runs to move out to a commanding 19-0 lead.

Winning pitcher Lacey Abrego allowed two hits and two earned runs in 3 1/3 innings to improve her season record to 10-2.

In Game 2, MacGibeny, Gabrielle Cirucci and London also drove in two runs apiece to lead the offense. Winning pitcher Mackenzie Ponto went the distance, scattering five hits in five innings.

DePasquale's team will next play Camden County College in a doubleheader at home on Tuesday, May 4. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
