NJCAA Division III Softball World Series: Roadrunner Rally Falls Short vs. No. 5 Herkimer College

The No. 4 seeded Roadrunner softball team struggled in its opening game in the NJCAA Division III Softball World Series vs. No. 5 Herkimer College in Syracuse, NY in a game interrupted by a lengthy rain delay.

The Runners dropped a heart-breaking 3-2 decision to the Generals as a late rally fell short in the bottom of the seventh inning.

After the two teams played two scoreless innings, the game was interrupted by rain for more than an hour.

Herkimer took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning but the Runners quickly battled back. In the bottom of the fourth, Brianna Cahall's ground out to second base scored Paige Fox to tie the score at 1-1.

The Generals added on two more runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 3-1 lead. In the seventh, the Runners staged a rally that fell short. Sophomore Emily MacGibeny launched an RBI single to right field, making it 3-2. But that closed out the scoring as the Generals emerged victorious.

Freshman Gemma Galloway pitched well in defeat, striking out 8 and allowing just three hits.

Next up for the Runners will be an 11 am battle Thursday vs. Minnesota North College-Itasca, which dropped a 5-3 decision to No. 1 North Dakota SCS. Herkimer winning pitcher Madison Prior held the Runners in check, scattering 7 hits and 2 earned runs.
