The Roadrunner Softball team held their 2024 home opener vs. The College of Southern Maryland with mixed results following a scheduled doubleheader Friday in Deptford, NJ.

The Runners dropped the opener, 7-4, after racing out to an early 3-0 lead behind All-American pitcher Gemma Galloway. But the unbeaten Hawks rallied with two runs in the third inning and adding 5 more runs in the fourth inning.

"We had a terrible inning late in the game and it cost us," said veteran coach Steve DePasquale. "Teams like Southern Maryland that we're playing early in the season will make you pay the price, so we need to learn from our mistakes."

In Game 2, the Runners built a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning, but the game was called due to darkness.

Next up for Coach DePasquale's team will be a twinbill on the road Saturday vs. Harford Community College (Maryland) Saturday.

The Runners return home next on March 23 next Saturday with a doubleheader vs. Suffolk Community College.
