It happened very quietly with no fanfare -- and that's exactly how Roadrunner Softball Coach Steve DePasquale liked it.
When RCSJ pitcher Emily Childs closed out her team's 14-0 Game 1 win over host Camden County College Tuesday, DePasquale quickly retrieved the game ball and tucked it away safely
Career win No. 900 was officially in the books.
There was no fanfare or formal celebration since fans and even DePasquale's team did not realize the magnitude of the milestone win.
"The umpire asked about getting the ball back since it was a game ball -- and I said 'No way!'" said Coach DePasquale, who laughed about the incident.
In his 31-year career, DePasquale has compiled a career record of 900-412-3 following the Game 1 triumph. His storied career include two NJCAA Division III National championships in 2011 and 2012.
Childs went the distance, allowing just one hit and striking out six in five innings of work. She was supported at the plate by teammates Grace Gallagher and Rylee Shappell, who lashed out three hits apiece. Gallagher belted a solo home run and scored three runs.
The Runners also won Game 2 by a 13-0 score to raise their season record to 13-7.
"The best part of this day was how well we played and that we won two games," DePasquale said. "Getting the 900th win is a nice milestone, but it means more to others than it does to me personally."
Next up for the Runners will be a doubleheader on the road at Northampton Community College on Saturday, April 5.
