SIGNATURE WIN!! Towlen Nets Winning Goal in OT as No. 7 Runners' Women's Soccer Edges No. 6 Brookdale!

Thanks to sophomore midfielder Melina Towlen, the final outcome was over with quickly Saturday as two of the country's top Division III women's soccer teams battled it out for GSAC and Region 19 supremacy on the RCSJ field.

Teammate Crystal Johnson's late goal helped the No. 7 nationally ranked Roadrunners rally for a 2-2 tie to send Saturday's clash into overtime. Towlen-- with an assist from center mid-fielder Maura Smith -- sealed it at 93:00 with the winning goal and a stunning 3-2 triumph!

"We just decided to put the pressure on, and yes, it happened a lot faster than any of us expected," said Towlen, who scored her second goal of the season. "I was in the right place at the right time."

While she registered perhaps the biggest goal of her career, Towlen hopes this is not the end of the line.

"I'm hoping there are a few more of these -- for me and my teammates!" she admitted.

The match-up lived up to all of its hype. The Roadrunners' Johnson and the Jersey Blues' Samantha Soto traded first half goals as the teams were locked at 1-1 heading into the second half. Brookdale's Rori McDonough then gave her team a 2-1 lead with a second-half goal before Johnson notched her second goal late to send the match into OT.

The win was the fourth straight for the Runners, who are now 4-2 overall.

Up next for the Runners will be a 4 pm match at home Tuesday vs. Ocean County College.
