Home Page for NJCAA 2018-19 Eastern District II Wrestling: Fischer, Carr Win Titles, Runners Are Second Overall!

The RCGC wrestling team enjoyed a banner day at the Eastern District II championships on Saturday at Lackawanna College with Most Valuable Wrestler Dylan Fischer winning a district crown at 165 pounds and sophomore standout Jared Carr winning the 149-pound title.

The Roadrunners advanced six wrestlers overall to the National Championship Tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa in March while also grabbing a second place team finish behind champion Lackawanna College.

Fischer won by pin at 165 over Thaddeus Steven's Noah Tarr and was selected Tournament Most Valuable Wrestler. Fischer had lost to Tarr in a dual meet match just two weeks prior to Districts.

"Dylan (Fischer) was very impressive throughout the tournament and he deserved to win the District title and the MVP award," said RCGC head coach Dan Antonelli. "Overall, we performed well as a team and are very proud to have six wrestlers qualify for nationals."

Jared Carr also capped a solid District tournament, earning the 149 title by beating Middlesex County's Nezzar Dimes in the finals. Carr had survived a close semifinal bout over Lackawanna College's Bartley Bovak to advance to the finals

Other RCGC national qualifiers included Anthony Pencook (141), Dylan Skidmore (157), Tyler Baer (174) and John Fountain (heavyweight). Pencoook and Baer each finished second in their respective weight classes. Skidmore earned his second straight trip to to the National Championships with a third place showing at 157 while Fountain placed third at heavyweight.

Lackawanna claimed the team title with 74.5 points with the Roadrunners a close second with 71 points. Also in the top five were Middlesex (68.5 points), Spartanburg Methodist (57) and Garrett (54).
