O'Connor, Meister Help Roadrunner Wrestling Finish Strong in Win Over Thaddeus Stevens

As all coaches in sports know well, it's how you finish that matters.

Roadrunner wrestling coach Alex Reeves saw that very scenario evolve Saturday when his team finished the regular season with a 30-23 triumph over Thaddeus Stevens College to finish their season with a much-needed victory heading into the upcoming region and district meets.

"We have some inexperienced guys to start the season who we know needed to catch up, and that's what they've done," said Coach Reeves. "How they finished yesterday against Thaddeus Stevens really matters for us going into the districts and the regions and ultimately into nationals."

Pins by freshman Gavin O'Connor at 165 pounds and sophomore Bobby Meister at heavyweight clinched the win for the Runners. O'Connor, normally a 157-pound grappler, was moved up to the 165-pound match to take advantage of a better matchup -- and the coaching maneuver proved successful.

"Gavin really pulled through for us," noted Reeves. "We saw a better matchup for him at 165, and he made the coaching staff look good."

Next up for the Runners is the NJCAA Gulf Atlantic District Meet at Lackawana College on February 17th.

Reeves will count on his veteran sophomore group and improving freshman wrestlers led by All-Conference standout Corey Fischer to send a large contingent to the NJCAA National Meet.
