Today, we look back on the career of former Gloucester County College track star Dr. Abiola Majekodunmi.

Long-time Roadrunner track and field coach Ryan Hughes recalls that former standout Abiola Majekodunmi influenced his program in more ways than one.

"She was the most positive athlete I had on the team, and her attitude and work ethic created a winning culture," said Hughes of the 2009 Clayton High graduate. "I don't think I ever saw her frown the entire time she was here."

Abi not only proved to be a positive influence on her teammates, but she also turned in impressive achievements. She captured consecutive individual NJCAA national championships in the javelin in 2010 and 2011 while also helping the Runners to back to back District titles and National championship Tournament Top 10 finishes. Her throws in the javelin consistently soared past 100 feet, while she also contributed as a member of the 4 x 100 meters relay team and in the high jump.

Abi won her national titles during the National Tournaments held at Alfred State College (New York) in May 2010 and May 2011, when she joined teammate Christina Lee (pole vault) as national champion. She also helped the Roadrunners to consecutive District crowns in the meets held at Howard Community College in 2010 and 2011.

Following her graduation from GCC in 2011 with a degree in applied sciences, Abi has enjoyed even more life success. She completed her bachelors degree at Rutgers University, majoring in biological sciences with a minor in public health in 2013. In her final year of college, Abi decided to pursue medicine and applied to medical school the following year. She also worked for 2 years at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and spent time volunteering. In 2019, she graduated the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. She is currently applying to emergency medicine residency programs to begin her career as an ER doctor.
