No. 3 Nationally Ranked Roadrunner Baseball Swept by Division 1 Rival Louisburg

The No. 3 nationally ranked Roadrunner Baseball team ran head first into a tough opponent Sunday afternoon when host Louisburg College (NC) swept RCSJ by scores of 6-1 and 6-5.

The sweep allowed the host Hurricanes, a Division 1 program, to extend their win streak to 10 straight and improved their season record 10-3 overall. The Runners dropped to 3-2 overall.

In Game 1, Cole Fowler knocked in the Runners' lone score with an RBI double in a 6-1 loss. Starting pitcher Kevin Opanel was tagged with the loss, lasting 4 1/3 innings.

Centerfielder Brian Wilson knocked in three runs and winning pitcher Drew Stanley struck out seven and scattered three hits in going the distance.

In a heart-breaking Game 2 finish, Louisburg first baseman Chance Purvis launched a walk-off home run to snap a 5-5 tie to clinch the 6-5 win.

The Runners fell behind 5-1 early.  But thanks to three RBI's from Felix Diaz and RBI's from Cole Fowler and Sean Brown,the visitors tied the game with three runs in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Lucas Hampel took the loss after turning in 2 1/3 innings of work.

The two teams take the field for another twinbill Monday afternoon with the Game 1 first pitch set for 12 noon and Game 2 for 3 pm.
