A new coach, new system, and new teammates.
No problem for sophomore guards Khayri Ransom and Quantavious Rogers.
The two returning guards under new Coach Rich Casey have adapted to well to all of their new surroundings, leading a talented group of Roadrunner Men's Basketball to a 69-53 triumph over Region 19 rival Sussex County Community College in the home opener. In the process they also helped the Runners boost their record to 2-1 overall, providing plenty of hope for the current 2022 season.
"Everyone's adjusting and you can see we're improving," said Coach Casey. "Quan and Khayri are proving that, and they're working hard to make us a better team."
Ransom led the way by draining 18 points while Rogers added 9 points, 9 assists and 10 rebounds in running a solid offensive attack. Freshman forward Josh Randall chipped in with 16 points and 13 rebounds while teammate Eriq Campbell netted 14.
The Runners built an early 19-point lead in the first half, but saw the advantage disappear by halftime as the Skylanders crept to within 29-25. They quickly built up the lead again in the second half before closing out on a solid run for their second straight win.
"We needed to step up our defense, which got us back on track with our offense," said Ransom. "Our offense comes naturally to us, and we have a lot of weapons."
Next up for the Runners will be a road game at GSAC rival Atlantic Cape on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in a 7 pm start.
