Fred Orock pumped in 24 points and Ace Lassiter added 10 points and pulled down a key game-saving rebound as time expired, lifting the Roadrunner Men's Basketball team to a heart-thumping 65-63 win over host Luzerne County Community College Saturday for the team's first triumph of the season.
The Runners, who trailed by one at halftime and as many as seven points in the second half, improved to 1-5 on the season.
After they fell behind by seven, Coach Brandon Williams' team ramped up their defensive pressure and managed to grab a slim lead entering the final seconds of play. Luzerne had possession of the ball and launched a last second shot for the win that bounced off the rim and into Lassiter's hands. Also leading the strong defensive effort to close out the win were Kendall, Chris Racobaldo. Kassius Willis, Kendall McCray, and Hajir Davis. McCray chipped in with 9 points and Davis added 8.
"We've had a long November, with all but one of our games played on the road with more to come," said Coach Williams. "Today was all about playing together/ We shared the ball well and we played great defense. We're true road warriors."
Next up for the Roadrunners, who play their next three games on the road against Pennsylvania schools before returning home Dec. 3 against Bergen CC, will be away at Lehigh Carbon CC on Tuesday in a 7 pm tipoff.
