Roadrunner Men's Basketball Rich Casey feels one of his team's biggest strengths is their depth throughout the lineup.
On Saturday, the Runners proved their coach right.
Forced to take the floor without one of Region 19's biggest stars in center Josh Randall (personal reasons), the Runners did not miss a beat, toppling host Middlesex College, 71-60, for their ninth straight win.
Darnell Demby, Quantavious Rogers, Jerry Surrency, and Eriq Campbell each scored 14 points to spark the Runners' attack.
"We have a lot of depth and versatility -- and the coaching staff always knew that," said Casey, a first-year coach. "We obviously miss a guy like Josh Randall, but everyone just stepped in and did their jobs. We filled in the gaps nicely today."
The Runners raced out to a 41-30 halftime lead and never looked back. The two teams battled to a 30-30 standoff in the second half.
Demby and Campbell also combined for seven blocked shots to spark the defensive effort.
Next up for Coach Casey's nationally ranked Runners will be a road game Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Mercer County Community College in a 6 pm start. This will be the beginning of tough week on which the Runners will also play Salem CC (Dec. 15) at home and travel to Passaic CCC (Dec. 17).
"We're getting into the meet of our conference and region schedule, and hopefully we're ready to play our best basketball of the season," commented Casey.
