Demby, Campbell Come Up Big as Roadrunner Men's Basketball Rallies to Stun Camden County College

The Roadrunner Men's Basketball team appeared well on their way to their third straight loss, when the tide suddenly turned against Camden County College Tuesday night.

Down by 8 points with a little more than 5 minutes remaining, the Runners rallied with a 17-8 surge to pull out a stunning 54-53 triumph over the Cougars.
Forward Eriq Campbell stole a pass with 3.6 seconds remaining and teammate Darnell Demby followed with a layup for the winning basket with 1.5 seconds left. The Runners then batted away the inbound pass to preserve the triumph.

A hearty celebration erupted as the Runners snapped a two-game skid and improved their record to 14-4 overall.

The exciting win allowed the Roadrunners to complete a sweep of the men's - women's doubleheader over the Cougars. Earlier, Coach Rich Cooper's Women's team rolled to a 67-52 triumph thanks to a solid fourth-quarter surge.

"This was all about character," said men's head coach Rich Casey. "We put ourselves in a big hole, but it was good to see we never gave up."

Center Josh Randall played a key role offensively, depositing 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds all told.

"Josh put up the points we needed from him, and he battled all the way," commented Casey. "That was a big part of this win tonight."

Demby, meanwhile, who finished with 5 points, immediately broke toward the basket once he saw Campbell register the steal.

"I was hoping to get open, and then the ball ended up in my hands," he said. "Luckily I was just able to lay it right in."

Next up fr the Runners will be a key road game at Sussex County Community College Saturday in a 2 pm start.
